CHOIR MEMBERS RESPONSIBILITIES

The Temple Baptist Church Adult Choir is a volunteer choir, consisting of members who give of their time and talent, in accordance to what talent God has given them, to the service of the Lord and His church.

Purpose/Mission Statement:

To glorify Jesus Christ by allowing Him to use the choir as a tool by working through each individual choir member to:

a) Prepare the hearts of the congregation for the preaching of the word of God;
b) Bless the members of the congregation and members of the choir through the singing of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs;
c) To lead the congregation in singing;
d) To be an example to the other members of the church by the testimony of our lives;
e) To provide an avenue of service to the members of the church.

Notes of Operation

Because the Adult Choir is made up of individuals, each member must realize that when they are not present, the choir is not complete. It is just as important for each individual to be faithful as it is the director of the choir himself. Members should be on time and remain for the entire rehearsal time.

Regular Rehearsal Wednesday 7:15 - 8:00 p.m.
Refresher Rehearsal Sunday 10:30 - 10:45 a.m.
AM Worship Service Sunday 10:45 a.m -
Ensemble Rehearsal* Sunday 4:45 p.m.
*Other rehearsals could be scheduled as needed for cantatas, and other special events.

Choir Members Responsibilities

It is the responsibility of each member to call the Director of Music when they will be late or absent. (615-517-0254)

Members are expected to attend (on time) ALL rehearsals and performances. Excused absences include: sickness (contagious), work, or vehicle problems. It is a concern when unexcused absences occur frequently. Though we are a volunteer choir, dedication to the Lord is expressed in dedication to His work. We desire, therefore, individuals who certainly believe it is God's will for them to be involved in this ministry to act responsibility toward it.

Absences

In case of absence, each member is expected to notify the Music Director in advance as soon as possible, either by phone or in person, whichever would be soonest.

Three (3) absences without notification will result in removal from the choir. If one desires to re-enter, they must meet with the Director before returning to choir.

Late/Tardy

Three (3) unexcused tardies will act for on (1) absence.

If you are late, (with or without excuse) members are to enter the sanctuary and sit on the front row until Directory motions them to enter the choir loft. The causes fewer disturbances during practice.

Selected Music and Individual singing parts

All music is selected by the Musice Director. Singing and speaking parts will be filled by the Director. A sign up sheet will be posted for individuals who want to participate in solos, duets, ensembles and group singers. Members are encouraged to suggest music; however, all music must be approved by the Music Director.

Music Books and Robes

Each member will be assigned a numbered slot to keep all material given out by Director. If a member is absent when material has been given out, please contact director. MEMBERS ARE NOT TO BORROW OTHER MEMBERS MATERIAL IF THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PIECE. Please see Director.

A robe will also be assigned to each member. It is the responsiblility of each member to keep their materail and robe in their assigned slot.

Spiritual Effectiveness

The spiritual effectiveness of the choir organization is proportionate to its loyalty and morale. Each member is expected to work against factors that can undermine this! Some of the factor are:

a) Lack of attention during rehearsals (all personal items are to be left in desginated area during rehearsals and performances).
b) Ill feelings voiced publicly rather that privately to the Music Director.
c) Voicing opinions regarding one's disrespect for the Director or other members of the choir, especially to those outside the membership.
d) Any type of action or attitude which dampens the enthsiasm of present or future choir members.
e) Displaying individual talent or satisfying personal interests rather than working for the good of the entire group.
f) Members not being an example to the other members of the church through the testimony of their personal life.

If you feel that God has called you to be a part of our Choir and you are willing to spend one evening of the week with the choir in preparation, you are welcome to be a part of this ministry. Please contact the Music Director 615-517-0254 or the Church Office 615-847-5091.
